    • A range of BASF innovative solutions used in the Second Penang Bridge or The Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge, enhance construction efficiency and concrete durability
    • MasterGlenium® ACE 8589 offers high early strength to the concrete that increases productivity within tight production timeframes

March 12, 2014 - A range of construction chemicals from Master Builders Solutions® by BASF have played a crucial role in the development of the longest bridge in South East Asia, The Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge, which was launched on March 1, 2014.

MasterGlenium® ACE, a concrete admixture under Master Builders Solutions, played a part in ensuring that the new Penang icon was completed within the scheduled plan. Apart from MasterGlenium® ACE, there were 11 other BASF solutions used in the construction of the RM 4.5 billion bridge, including waterproofing and grout. The BASF technology supplied was an advanced mould release agent, MasterFinish® 222, for achieving a superior off-form finish with reduced spalling and wastage. BASF teams worked with the main contractors to develop solutions suited to the needs of the project, providing onsite product development service and support.

The know-how and experience of a global team of BASF experts in the construction industry form the core of Master Builders Solutions. By working closely with our construction partners in Malaysia, we solved the challenge together by sharing knowledge whilst providing solutions for some crucial parts in the construction of the bridge," said Rosli Idris, Marketing & Product Management Manager, Admixture System of Construction Chemicals, BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

"BASF is proud to be a part of this project, which is an infrastructure icon for Malaysia and South East Asia. BASF solutions ensured that major construction projects in Malaysia and around the world are built with increased quality and productivity within tight production timeframes" said Daniel Loh, Managing Director, BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

The Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge, is another iconic construction built using BASF solutions. Besides this, BASF solutions have also been used in many of the nation's mega projects such as the Petronas Twin Towers, Bakun Dam, Manjung Power Plant and the Pulau Bunting Bridge. Globally, BASF solutions have also been used in iconic world structures such as the Burj Al-Khalifa, the Metro Bridge in Dubai and the Shanghai Tower in China.
